“How to Become the Center of Influence Through Result-Driven Podcasting” with Ruth Kudzi of the Path to Success Podcast

As part of my series of interviews about “How podcasters can become a center of influence”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Ruth Kudzi of Path to Success. She is a UK based business mentor, mindset coach and bestselling author who has worked with 1000s of clients worldwide. She combines practical business skills with an MA in psychology and numerous coaching qualifications, including NLP, to help her clients build businesses they love.

She is a well-respected coach who often appears in the media, and her podcast, Path to Success, is intended to inspire listeners and get them to take action. Ruth has had three successful careers and knows that the path to success is never straight and that success is always about how we feel rather than those external factors.

.  .  .

Can you tell us the “backstory” about why or how you got started as a podcaster?

I had a client who helped people start podcasts and I could see the opportunities she had so jumped at the chance to work with her and start my podcast. I wanted to increase my audience and to have a bigger reach, so it seemed like a no brainer.

Can you share a story about the most interesting thing that has happened to you since you started podcasting?

I was approached by someone I had spoken to 2 years ago to work with them as a coach and we had a fantastic time working together, I was on her agenda as she heard me on my podcast. This showed me that I was right to go ahead and do a podcast!

Can you share a story about the biggest or funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

Where do I start, there is a lot to learn but you get there pretty quickly and feel as if you are achieving something each time. I used to have the video on, and this meant I got easily distracted, so I stopped that pretty early on!

I also started to record an episode and forgot to press record, luckily, I realised five -minutes in and it wasn’t a problem, but you do learn by each mistake, and can laugh about it once you are back on track.

How long have you been podcasting and how many shows have you aired?

The Path to Success was launched in April 2019 and I have done over 30 episodes so far, with many more to come. In the shows I explore not only what success means, but how your mindset is key in helping you become successful. I share my journey and interview guests who share their struggles and talk about the things that have helped them get to where they are today.

My message is clear, we don’t have to be defined by our struggles in our past and that everything we do, and experience, can help us on that path to success.

What are the main takeaways or lessons you want your listeners to walk away with?

I want my listeners to realise that success isn’t a formula and that we all have our struggles but overcoming them means we get to where we want to be.

I also want people to understand how they can change their lives and grow their businesses by taking daily action and that by doing that they will get to their end goal.

Podcaster Influencer, Ruth Kudzi of the Path to Success Podcast shares the best ways to:

1) Book Great Guests. I use my network to book great guests and I also approach people who I knew and who I think my audience would like to hear from.

2) Increase Listeners. We decided to have two episodes a week to increase listeners and changed the format when we did this. Doing this allows me to share more practical information and ‘how to tips’ with listeners, so they were can get results. We also share details via our social media platforms and through our email list and both of these help to increase listeners because they know we are here and waiting to greet them.

3) Produce in a Professional Way. One of my team edits the podcast for me which makes a huge difference to how it sounds, she has training from Lynsay Anne Gould on how to do this and it has really helped.

4) Encourage Engagement. We ask for feedback from listeners and often ask for topic suggestions from listeners, we have a sponsor so are looking at a giveaway with them to encourage more engagement

5) Monetize Your Show. We don’t actively monetise the podcast yet!

What makes your podcast binge-listenable? What do you think makes your podcast unique from the others in your category? What do you think is special about you as a host, your guests, or the content itself?
