“How to Become the Center of Influence and a Boss Through Podcasting” with Natalie Ellis and Danielle Canty of the BossBabe Podcast
As part of my series of interviews about “How to Become a Center of Influence Through Podcatsing”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Natalie and Danielle, the powerhouse duo behind one of the largest and fastest growing communities online of ambitious women and female entrepreneurs in the world. Combining Danielle’s operational precision with Natalie’s expertise in marketing, the two successful serial entrepreneurs make the perfect pair. Between chatting all things business strategy, marriage, biohacking and money, the show will feel like you’re sitting down for matcha lattes with Natalie and Danielle, digging deep into real conversations with your ambitious besties.
. . .
Can you tell us the “backstory” about why or how you got started as a podcaster?
When Danielle and I first launched BossBabe, we were focused on building a community for unapologetically ambitious women. One of our main channels to do that were intimate Facebook Groups and our Instagram community which now has over 1.3 million followers. From there, we started exploring in which ways we could serve women. After some research, we realized there aren’t enough podcasts who talk about the real behind the scenes of building successful businesses, achieving peak performance and learning how to balance it all. Especially for women. So that’s how The BossBabe Podcast got started.
Can you share a story about the most interesting thing that has happened to you since you started podcasting?
We’ve just been able to have so many interesting conversations and it has become my favorite way of creating content. I seem to have endless energy for creating podcast episodes!
Can you share a story about the biggest or funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
Trying to work the tech was the most hilarious experience. We ended up spending thousands of dollars on equipment that we didn’t actually need and had no idea how to use.
How long have you been podcasting and how many shows have you aired?
Our first episode aired on March 14 of this year so you could say we’re pretty new to the game. We’re now onto episode 20 of The BossBabe Podcast with the goal to share one new podcast every Wednesday. I can see us starting to release 2–3 episodes a week as we begin to grow as we’re enjoying it so much.

Podcaster Influencers, Natalie Ellis and Danielle Canty of the BossBabe Podcast share the best ways to:
1) Book Great Guests. When you’re super clear on your niche and who you want to serve, it’s incredibly easy to know which guests could deliver value. When we consider someone, we ask ourselves: “Does this person or brand help a Boss Babe become her best self? Is this content paving the way for other women?” Since our brand is well-understood online, the majority of our guests are inbounds, people who have already been self selected. They’ll send us a DM and if it’s a good match we will proceed.
2) Increase Listeners. We look at this in the classic way: awareness and retention. There’s a full content strategy around promoting the BossBabe Podcast from Instagram Stories to Email Campaigns and leveraging our guests online presence. That’s how we’re able to attract listeners to consider 1 episode. How do we make sure they stick around? By producing high-quality content that sounds as if it was written just for them. We cover everything from biohacking to business strategy. Our goal is to provide inspiration, information and resources to help women step into their full potential.
3) Produce in a Professional Way. We believe in running a lean startup and that also applies to our Podcast. A podcast may sound professional to the listener, but we know what goes on behind the scenes. I’m often the checking the sound minutes before a guest walks in only to realize there’s a huge echo that I need to fix.
4) Encourage engagement. We include a call-to-action in each of our podcasts to share their favorite take-aways and tag us on Instagram. We’re always making sure to reply or repost these. It’s part of our brand.
5) Monetize Your Show. For now, we’re sticking to brand sponsorships. It’s always a very natural fit since our listeners are always looking for products to uplevel themselves.
What makes your podcast binge-listenable? What do you think makes your podcast unique from the others in your category? What do you think is special about you as a host, your guests, or the content itself?
